TechnoBerg AI and Robotics Discovery Program

Students should not only hear about future technology; they should experience it.

Length
1 to 2 hours
Delivery
One session of 60 to 90 minutes, adapted to the school timetable
Location
Classroom, auditorium, innovation lab or TechnoBerg centre

Overview

A 60 to 90 minute age-appropriate school workshop combining simple explanations, live demonstrations and selected activities in AI, robotics, sensors and automation. No previous technical knowledge required.

The TechnoBerg AI & Robotics Discovery Programme is a short, engaging technology-awareness experience for school students. It does not attempt to teach complex programming in one session. Students see, discuss and, where safe and suitable, interact with selected AI, robotics, sensor and automation demonstrations so abstract ideas become understandable real-life experiences. The programme lets schools introduce emerging technology before committing to a long course or laboratory.

Introduces future education and career pathways responsibly, connecting classroom subjects with real technology and careers. Accreditation, academic credit, guaranteed skill mastery or a career outcome are not promised.

Who should join, and what to bring.

Who should join

  • School students in Grades 1 to 10, delivered in age-appropriate bands.
  • Grades 1 to 3, Explore & Enjoy: stories, movement, robot parts, human-robot game and drawing.
  • Grades 4 to 6, Discover How It Works: components, sensors, obstacle and line following, and a smart environment.
  • Grades 7 to 9, Understand & Experiment: AI vs robotics, logic, controllers, vision and automation.
  • Grade 10, Connect Technology with Careers: ML awareness, robotics architecture, IoT, industrial automation, ethics and careers.
  • Schools planning an innovation day, STEM/STEAM week, science club, career-awareness event, lab-planning consultation or selection and orientation for advanced programmes.

Recommended before you start

  • No prior knowledge required.
  • Recommended group of 20 to 40 students; larger groups require revised staffing and layout.

By the end, you will be able to:

  • Understand sensors and response as a robot detects an obstacle.
  • Encounter computer vision as an AI system identifies an object.
  • Experience generative AI and verification as a chatbot answers a question.
  • Recognise automation as a light reacts to movement.
  • Experience coding logic and debugging by following exact commands.
  • Identify robot components and the input-processing-output sequence.
  • Understand safe, responsible AI use and human judgement.
  • Connect classroom subjects with real technology and careers.

Students interact with demonstrations only where safe and suitable, using selected low-voltage sensors and approved objects. Unsafe hardware interaction is never compressed to fit the time: the number of activities is reduced rather than rushing supervision, setup or safe shutdown. Student photography or publication requires school and required parent consent.

One session, seven steps, 60 or 90 minutes.

  1. Welcome & technology icebreaker

    5 min in either format
  2. AI and robotics concepts

    60-minute format: 10 min; 90-minute format: 15 min
    • Artificial Intelligence: helps a system recognise patterns, create responses or support decisions, as in a chatbot, face unlock or recommendations.
    • Robotics: builds a physical machine that senses, moves or performs a task, such as a robot arm or cleaning robot.
    • Automation: makes a process operate automatically under rules, such as an automatic door or smart light.
    • AI-powered robot: a physical robot using AI to interpret and respond, such as an autonomous delivery robot.
  3. Live robot/sensor demonstration

    60-minute format: 15 min; 90-minute format: 20 min
    • Meet and Observe a Robot: controller, sensors, motors, battery, program and frame; observe safe movement, stopping, turning and response to commands.
    • Obstacle-Detection Challenge: input, processing and output; place approved objects while the robot detects, stops or changes direction.
    • Line-Following Demonstration: sensor-based navigation and programmed rules; create or modify a simple track and observe continuous correction.
    • Sensor Discovery Station: light, motion, touch, distance, temperature and sound; test selected low-voltage sensors and connect changes to machine response.
    • Mini Smart-Environment Demo: automation for safety, comfort and efficiency; observe automatic light, alarm, door, fan or monitoring examples.
  4. AI demonstration

    10 min in either format
    • AI Chatbot Interaction: clear questions, useful answers and human verification; ask age-appropriate questions and identify incomplete or uncertain responses.
    • AI Vision Demonstration: cameras, patterns, objects, colour and gesture; present approved classroom objects and discuss recognition limits.
  5. Selected practical activity

    60-minute format: 10 min; 90-minute format: 20 min
    • Human Robot Game: sequence, direction, precision and debugging; one learner follows exact spoken instructions without equipment.
  6. Innovation challenge

    60-minute format: 5 min; 90-minute format: 10 min
    • Build-a-Robot Concept: problem, user, sensors, movement and intelligence; teams propose a robot for school, health, environment or community.

Team robot concept and short presentation.

  7. Careers, quiz and questions

    60-minute format: 5 min; 90-minute format: 10 min
    • Oral questions and age-appropriate mini quiz.

What you will work with, and what you will make.

Tools

  • Robot (controller, sensors, motors, battery, program and frame)
  • Low-voltage sensors: light, motion, touch, distance, temperature and sound
  • Smart-environment demo: automatic light, alarm, door, fan or monitoring
  • AI chatbot
  • AI vision (cameras)

The final set of tools is confirmed for each batch.

Example projects

  • Team robot concept for school, health, environment or community, with a short presentation

How it is taught, and what you receive.

How it is taught

  • Simple explanation, live demonstration and selected student activities.
  • Selected demonstrations, not a promise to run all nine: the final activity set is chosen after considering age, session length, group size, school facilities, equipment readiness and risk assessment.
  • Cohorts are grouped by age wherever possible. A single mixed-age assembly may be used for awareness, but practical depth and questioning remain age-appropriate.
  • Grades 1 to 3: highly visual, with 3 to 5 minute activity blocks.
  • Grades 4 to 6: concrete cause-and-effect plus a team idea.
  • Grades 7 to 9: prediction, testing, debugging and evidence.
  • Grade 10: systems thinking, responsible AI and pathways.
  • Engagement evidence: oral questions and a mini quiz, prediction before a demonstration and reflection afterward, a team robot concept and short presentation, teacher observation and end-of-session feedback.
